Inspired by the Jabsco sessions

Rudy's Rare Records.

From July 11 to Aug 1 the Sunday Night Comedy Show is running four episodes of Rudy’s Rare Records. A reggae influenced comedy show set in Birmingham, based on a stormy relationship between a father and son. Son Adam, who fled the family home in birmingham for a better life, nowlives in london and owns a well organized upmarket record shop (Bach To Basics) which specialises in classical records. Rudy, Adams father, owns a shambolic, real roots reggae shop in Birmingham where where Rudy’s “If it's not on the shelves, it's on the floor”, approach to storing/cataloguing his stock is polar opposite to Adams perfectly catalogued shelves.

When circumstances bring Adam home to look after his dad and the shop, comedic conflict is ready to unfold.

Clever writing from Dan Tetsell and Danny Robins, combined with some great vintage reggae and ska music that would not be out of place on The Jabsco Sessions (first sat of every month here on Waiheke Radio) makes this one of the better comedy shows around.

July 4th Episode 1. Roots Maneuvers

Adam gets the call to come 'home,' and has to take himself and his teenage son Ritchie ‘oop north’ when his dad has a heart attack.

Learn to make Radio Programmes

Posted 05/07/2010 - 12:46 by Chris

Waiheke Radio is looking for new contributors and rather than throw people in at the deep end we are running a training course to get people started. We're running a six week course running on Wednesday evenings, starting on the 28th July. Topics covered will include technical and production aspects of making radio programmes such as on-air announcing, interviewing, recording and editing, and programme design.

We're limiting the number of participants but expressions of interest are sought from any Waiheke individuals or groups whether you're  interested in making a music show, a public service programme, something about the arts, a news and issues programme or any other programme ideas you have.

Because Waiheke Radio is a community radio station one of our major objectives is to support and train islanders to get involved in producing radio programmes.

The course costs $60 which also gives participants six months membership of the station.

To find out more, or to register interest in taking part in the course, contact Chris Walker at admin@waihekeradio.org.nz or 027 275 4655.

Waiheke Radio Frequencies

Posted 26/06/2010 - 18:06 by Chris

Following a review of Low Power FM broadcasting regulations some Waiheke radio stations have changed frequencies this week.

Waiheke Radio stays on our existing frequencies, 88.3 and 107.4fm while Onetangi radio station Splash FM now broadcasts on 87.6fm and 107fm in Ostend, while Waiheke Wireless, operated by the Lazy Lounge in Oneroa, has shifted to 88.0fm.

The changes will be positive for listeners of all three stations as the new regulations have allowed the stations to have greater separation between frequencies, so there is less risk of interference.

The change also means Waiheke Radio may cover areas that we didn’t before. If you haven't been able to pick up the station before, particularly in Onetangi, you should give it another go.

Reception will still be greatly improved by use of an aerial. Inexpensive wire aerials are available at many electronic goods stores.
