Waiheke Radio is marking Christmas by broadcasting a recording of the Waiheke Choral Society and Sister Shout performing Handel’s Messiah. We recorded the live performance at St Peter’s Church in Oneroa earlier this month and we’ll broadcast it at 8pm on Christmas Eve and again at 10am on Christmas Day on 88.3fm and 107.4fm.
As a community radio station we’re always trying to bring a local angle to our programme so we’re thrilled to work with the Choral Society on this project and celebrate a Waiheke Christmas.
Messiah, composed by George Frideric Handel and based on a libretto by Charles Jennens is Handel’s most famous creation and is among the most popular works in Western choral literature.
The work is divided into three parts which address different aspects in the life of Christ with Part One primarily concerned with the Advent and Christmas stories.
On the 7th of Dec the Waiheke Choral Society and Sister Shout performed Part One along with the famous Hallelujah Chorus at St Peter’s Chuch in Oneroa.
Waiheke Radio was there to record the performance and as part of our Waiheke Christmas programme we’re proud to present Handel’s Messiah.
