Labour weekend marks Waiheke Radio’s 1st birthday and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved in our first year. On Island Life, 10am-12pm, on Sat 24th Oct we’ll be featuring a retrospective of some of the highlights of our first year.
We’re a community radio station aiming to produce content that not only informs and entertains Waiheke Islanders but also engages the community. Over the last year we’ve broadcast the voices and views of many, many Waiheke Islanders. We’ve featured literally hundreds of interviews with locals on Waiheke events and issues. And Waiheke Radio has recorded and played performances of local music from rock bands and singer-songwriters to children and the choral society. We’ve also worked hard to give islanders the chance to produce their own radio programmes. Our radio dramas and book serialisations have brought dozens of people into our studio to create locally produced content. And we launched the Waiheke Podcasting Project, an iniative that trains and supports people to record and produce their own audio programmes for broadcast and internet. Of course, there’s also our great range of programmes, all produced by volunteers, bringing you music and views in innovative ways and reflecting our unique Waiheke way of life.
Tune in to Island Life on Sat 24th, or explore our podcast archives to hear what we’ve been up to, and help us celebrate at our 1st birthday bash on Nov 28th.
