Ubiquity Records and Cuipo join forces to present “Sustainable Sounds”, a digital compilation with a purpose: “one square meter of rainforest” is preserved with every album purchase. With tracks culled from the deep vaults of the Ubiquity catalog featuring artists such as Radio Citizen, Shawn Lee, Monophonics, The Echocentrics, The Lions, NOMO, Ohmega Watts and many others. The compilation is a shared “musical vision” of a sustainable planet between the two brands and a collaborative effort to capture the laidback, California vibe set amongst the beats of the world, a nod to Ubiquity’s Golden State heritage and Cuipo’s roots in the rainforest. www.cuipo.org. AL JAWALA create an absorbing and innovating urban sound that takes the soul of Balkan-brass out to the Dancefloors. An explosive and highly charged cocktail, in which cultural limits fade. ÄL JAWALA reaches out further than the common “Style-Mix-Formats”. They dare to reach into the unexplored, they break loose, transform into a orchestra, become DJ, Punkband and Storyteller. AL JAWALA combine dancefloor-capability with virtuosity and stunning musical open-mindedness. „Challenging, fiery, fascinating, cosmopolitan, technically exiting but still accessible without digression. An absolutely emotive band that certainly can bring every crowd to a boil“ writes the Drums & Percussion magazine. Neither strictly hippies nor 17 in number, Berlin’s 17 Hippies have for 12 years been a mainstay of Germany’s world-music scene, wowing audiences across Europe, and as far afield as Russia and Japan, with their energetic pan-ethnic performances. Currently numbering around a dozen players, their diverse backgrounds afford a truly international blend of influences, with lyrics delivered in German, French or English, and all manner of cultural hybrids occurring in the music.
