For the past ten years, Mondomix has been bringing its audience an exclusive look at the sounds and images which are moving and grooving the planet. The sounds, whether traditional or contemporary, rooted in one culture or a mix of many, are, for lack of a better word, known as “world music”, and can be found on more and more portable media players around the world. It was up to Mondomix to find a way to select the best music and offer it with equal parts openness and curiosity.

Mondomix’s vision was made into reality in 2005 when it presented MondomixMusic, a new way to download MP3s without the barriers of DRM or cultural pigeonholing.
Now with more experience and even higher standards of quality and passion, Mondomix presents its latest vision: mp3.mondomix.com. With mp3.mondomix.com, Mondomix hopes to offer you new tools for finding, classifying, and recommending new music. Mp3.mondomix.com will allow you to navigate the continents and ride the tradewinds to make your own soundtrack, and to share that soundtrack as you like. Welcome to the MP3 experience, as seen by Mondomix.

Mariem Hassan

Mariem mint El Hassan is an ambassador of the Sahraoui people. Through her songs, she expresses the pride of her people that was condemned into exhile for decades.

"Shouka" ("Thorn") is a response to the 1976 speech of Felipe Gonzalez, a Spanish politician, who returns in his discourse to the colonisation of Western Sahara by his country and the failed decolonisation that followed.Through this album, Mariem Hassan continues to reclaim the pride of her people.

Orchestre National de Barbès

Barbès is a district of Paris where African immigrants gather. In between games of dominos and plates of steaming couscous, it is in the cafés of Barbès that the National Orchestra of Barbès came into being. This band of flexible members was born thanks to the meeting of Algerian bassist, Youcef Boukella, Larbi Dida, the former singer of Raina Raï, the Moroccan Aziz Sehmaoui, and Fateh, a singer of Chaabi (a North African music style).

Jacky Molard Quartet & Foune Diarra Trio

Jacky Molard’s music has both Breton roots and a global outlook, much like his native Breton Peninsula, a region well accustomed to intercultural musical encounters. After collaborating with musicians from Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria and Kurdistan, the violinist met Foune Diarra – a young Malian diva with a radiant smile, and suddenly, two orally transmitted cultures began to talk!

Idrissa Soumaoro

Idrissa Soumaoro is a cheerful and creative multi-instrumentalist who dedicated his life to others by becoming a music teacher for the blind. Once a member of the famous Ambassadeurs, he has been awarded RFI’s World Music Prize in 2004.

An album of great serenity, somewhere between the work of Amadou & Mariam, who Idrissa worked with and shared a calm optimism  ("Let’s love and embrace each other for our stay in this world is so short," he sings here), and that of Ali Farka Touré, who’s guitar and voice shine through on "Bérébéré".

Dobet Gnahoré

Dobet Gnahoré is a singer, dancer and percussionist who inherited the force of the "Bété" tradition from her father, Boni Gnahoré, a master percussionist who plays with the Abidjan-based Ki-Yi Mbock Company, directed by Werewere Liking. She formed a duo with French guitarist Colin Laroche de Féline at the end of the 90’s. They decided to settle in France until peace and stability reigned in her beautiful country once again. Dobet sings in a range of African languages including Bété, Fon, Baoule, Lingala, Malinke, Mina or Bambara, with a warm and powerful voice…
