Playist for 16th October 2011 – Franz Liszt

Next Saturday is the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt, who was the inventor of the modern solo piano recital. He was born in Hungary on October 22nd, 1811.
I don’t have an awful lot of his music as quite frankly he’s not my cup of tea but I thought I’d give you the chance to find out a little more about him by listening to a BBC Radio 3 podcast from a Composer of the Week programme in 2007, presented far better than I could ever hope to by Donald Macleod, that talks about Liszt through excerpts from the 35,000 or so letters that Liszt wrote during his lifetime.
