The Navigator plies the Indian Ocean and beyond 21-02-2010 6-9pm

Written by on February 21, 2010

As promised on the show last week i am going to venture into the Indian Ocean and play music form Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Zanzibar, Seychelles, Comores and Mayotte. The ultimate of a melting pot of cultures. Africa to the west and the Middle East and Asia to the north. There even is a whiff of the Pacific in Madagascar.

Most songs are from the more than excellent "Rough Guide To" series

I was planning to finish the journey in Myanmar (Burma) to pay tribute to the plight of the people, who are suffering under the hardline rule of the generals and the continuous imprisonment of the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Got a bit of headwind, so i leave that till next week

The first part of the show i will play from recent albums by

Te Vaka – Haoloto, their excellent 6th album from December 2009

Kottarashky – Opa Hey. Bulgarian Balkan, Folf, Jazz and Electronica 2009

"Keep Your Soul – A Tribute To Doug Sahm 2009

Forro In The Dark – "Light A Candle" from Northeast Brazil  2009
