The Navigator – Sunday January 11, 2009 19.00-21.00
Written by Martini on January 11, 2009
I discovered this great compilation album Africolor from the Cobalt label, which has lots of music from Reunion in the Indian Ocean. All these bands are new to me and I will play tracks by Lindigo, Salem Tradition, Danyel Waro, Loy Ehrlich and Rene Lacaille. From the same album I will play tracks by Eritrean singer Faytinga and Mali singers Nahawa Doumbia and Sibiri Samaké. A great introduction into music from the Indian Ocean and I will certainly put the region on the Navigator’s course during the coming weeks.
The Berlin based band 17 Hippies has a new album El Dorado due on January 30, 2009. You can listen to 4 new tracks on the website and it promises to be another great one. Will play two tracks tonight
We will have a killer track from Fanga. This French group of 7 musicians is deeply rooted in Afrobeat and the track comes from a bonus CD from 2008, which I found on E-music, one of my favourite mp3 (paid) sites. The whole track is 11 minutes, so had to cut it down about 5.
King Chango, the New York based Latin Ska force, is represented with 2 song as are A Hawk and a Hacksaw, the New Mexico based duo with a lot of focus on the Balkan
The show will also focus very much on the Pacific Ocean and I made a CD full of tracks and I will make a 30 minute selection
Don’t know yet what order the tracks will, so no playlist this time
Hope you enjoy the show
Be Nice To Each Other
